“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”—Calvin Coolidge

In Nursing without Borders…values, wisdom, success markers, Ellen Fineout-Overholt and Bernadette Mazurek-Melnyk shared living the dream of Evidence-Based Practice(EBP) and how to live the dream. They wrote, “The processes we used to live this dream have not always been consistent. We view this flexibility to engage different processes as strength. The consistent steps to the process have been very much the EBP process.

  1. Determine what we really care about.
  2. Find the evidence to answer it, through research, through data, through experience.
  3. Keep the good stuff and use what doesn’t work to teach us something.
  4. Make what we’ve learned live in how we approach our work.
  5. Assess and continually monitor our outcomes.

You can do whatever your mind can conceive. The belief you have in your own abilities and those of others to achieve the outcome will influence how successful you will be in your efforts. So re- member, stay focused on your dreams, believe in your ability to achieve them, persist through the character-building times, form an awesome team, and enjoy the journey. You can do it!”

Are you living your dream? Are you integrating initiatives within your practice setting that will transform care and outcomes?
